OPEN CASTING CALL

BBC Studios Comedy are casting a new comedy short film OUR SCHOOL for the BBC. Adapted from ‘Dugsi Dayz’, an award-winning British-Somali play written by Sabrina Ali. It explores Somali-Muslim culture and female friendship.

Overall filming period – 2nd March – 6th March 2026
(includes rehearsals and filming)


CHARACTERS

HANI – An outcast by choice. Intense, guarded, and slightly strange — the kind of girl people decide is “weird” before they’ve even spoken to her. Dry, sarcastic, and witty underneath.
Hani is British Somali. Muslim and can have any accent (Preferably London)
(We are open to actors East African heritage OR open to actors from the Muslim community)
Playing age 17 (looking for actors aged 18 and over who can realistically play 17 years old)


MUNIRA – Overconfident, charismatic, and fully convinced she’s a self-made tycoon, destined for Forbes 30 Under 30. To everyone else at school, she just sells fizzy drinks.
Munira is British Somali. Muslim and can have any accent (Preferably London)
Playing age 17 (looking for actors aged 18 and over who can realistically play 17 years old)


YASMIN – A social-media influencer polished, performatively kind, and deeply self-obsessed. Everyone’s “best friend,” quietly superior, constantly offering unsolicited advice on gut health, acne, and life in general.
Yasmin is British Somali. Muslim and can have any accent (Preferably London)

Playing age 17 (looking for actors aged 18 and over who can realistically play 17 years old)


SALMA – A proud prefect. Morally anxious, painfully sincere, and desperate to do the right thing. She runs on rules and bubble tea and takes everything way too seriously which makes her unintentionally hilarious.
Salma is British Somali. Muslim and can have any accent (Preferably London)
Playing age 17 (looking for actors aged 18 and over who can realistically play 17 years old)


Announcement for a new comedy project seeking young talent with personality, no acting experience required. Application details provided, including deadline of Friday 13th February 2026.

No acting experience required, we are looking for young talent with lots of personality and interested in gaining on-screen experience for this new comedy project.
