On Tuesday evening, actor Tom Felton made a sensational Broadway appearance in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, reprising his iconic role as Draco Malfoy. The London-born actor stepped onto the stage at New York’s Lyric Theatre — marking his debut in a Broadway production — and was greeted by sustained cheering that temporarily brought the performance to a standstill. 

Footage released by the production captures the moment: Felton’s entrance sparks ecstatic applause, followed by a lengthy pause before he delivers his first line, “I need a favour.”

The show’s official account celebrated the moment on Instagram, writing: “It’s true then, what they’re saying on the train. Tom Felton has come to Broadway.” 

The play, which takes place 19 years after the events of the original film series, sees characters Harry, Ron, Hermione — and Draco — now sending their children off to Hogwarts. It is derived from a story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. 

Felton is booked to perform in the production through to 22 March 2026. 

Reflecting on the role, Felton said: “Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world.” 

Since the conclusion of the Harry Potter film saga, Felton has expanded his repertoire both on stage and screen. His West End debut came in 2022 with the play ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’, and in 2024 he appeared in ‘A Child of Science’ at the Bristol Old Vic. On television, his credits include roles in ‘The Flash and Full Circle’, while his film work spans titles such as ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, ‘Belle’, and the Netflix features ‘A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting’ and ‘The Forgotten Battle’.
