Glasgow city centre has been transformed into a stand-in for New York as filming begins for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Tom Holland. Production started on August 1, 2025, with scenes being shot on Bothwell Street, St Vincent Street, George Square, and other key locations. The streets have been dressed with NYPD vehicles, American flags, and iconic yellow taxis to recreate Manhattan’s atmosphere.

Crowds of fans gathered to catch glimpses of action-packed sequences, including dramatic car chases, explosive stunts, and rooftop leaps performed by stunt doubles. Holland was seen in a newly designed Spider-Man suit, interacting with fans between takes. Filming was originally scheduled through mid-August but has since been extended to August 26 due to the scale of the production.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi), ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ picks up after the events of ‘No Way Home’, exploring Peter Parker’s life following the erasure of his identity. The film features returning stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Charlie Cox, and Mark Ruffalo, along with newcomers Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas. It blends practical, on-location shooting in Glasgow with stage work at Pinewood Studios in England. The movie is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.

It’s pretty cool to see the continued use of practical FX even during the rise of AI generated CGI.
