This year’s line-up is stacked with major franchise entries, high-octane originals, and long-awaited reboots, each vying for box office dominance. Here’s a look at what’s coming, in order of release.
‘Thunderbolts’ – May 2
Kicking off the summer season is Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’, which sees a ragtag team of anti-heroes and reformed villains pushed into the spotlight. With Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Wyatt Russell leading the ensemble, this darker, edgier chapter of the MCU promises a mix of espionage, conflict, and redemption. ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ – May 23
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’. In this instalment, Cruise performs dangerous feats such as wing-walking on a 1940s-era biplane flying at over 120 mph and shooting a submerged submarine sequence in a rotatable tank. ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ (Live-Action) – June 13
DreamWorks’ beloved animated film gets a live-action remake directed by Dean DeBlois. The film stars Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, and Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast. It is set to be released theatrically by Universal Pictures in the United States on June 13, 2025.
‘F1’ – June 25 (International), June 27 (North America)
Brad Pitt stars in ‘F1’, a racing drama produced in collaboration with Formula 1. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (‘Top Gun: Maverick’) and co-produced by Lewis Hamilton, the film blends real F1 footage with scripted drama to deliver a visceral racing experience. The film is scheduled to be theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 25, 2025, internationally, and in the United States and Canada on June 27, 2025.
‘Jurassic World’ – July 18
Dinosaurs return in a brand new ‘Jurassic World’ chapter that is neither a sequel nor a prequel, but a bold new beginning. Directed by Gareth Edwards (‘Rogue One’), this rebooted take is said to lean into survival horror while expanding the franchise’s mythology.
‘Superman’ – July 31
James Gunn’s much-anticipated ‘Superman’ reboot marks a new chapter for DC Studios. With David Corenswet donning the cape and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, the film aims to reintroduce the Man of Steel with hope, heart, and heroism. Set in the new DC Universe canon, this version of Superman is said to explore Kal-El’s dual identity and his place in a world that doesn’t always believe in goodness.
‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ – August 8
Marvel brings the Fantastic Four into the MCU with ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular team. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 25, 2025, as the first film of Phase Six of the MCU.
