Netflix’s acclaimed coming-of-age series ‘Heartstopper’ will conclude with a feature-length film, offering fans a heartfelt finale to Nick and Charlie’s story. Rather than proceeding with a fourth season, the streaming platform has opted for a cinematic conclusion, with production slated to begin in the summer of 2025.

The upcoming film will draw inspiration from Alice Oseman’s anticipated sixth volume of the ‘Heartstopper’ graphic novel series, as well as her 2015 novella ‘Nick and Charlie’. Oseman, who has been integral to the series’ adaptation, is penning the screenplay and will serve as an executive producer. She expressed enthusiasm about bringing the narrative to a “magical” conclusion.

The storyline will explore the challenges of Nick and Charlie’s relationship as they face the prospect of a long-distance dynamic—Nick preparing for university life and Charlie navigating increased independence at school. Their journey will delve into themes of love, growth, and the complexities of young adulthood. Director Wash Westmoreland is set to helm the project, with lead actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke also contributing as executive producers.

Since its debut in April 2022, ‘Heartstopper’ has been lauded for its authentic portrayal of LGBTQ+ relationships and has garnered a dedicated global fanbase. The series’ decision to culminate with a film aims to provide a satisfying and emotionally resonant conclusion to a story that has touched many.

Casting Director Daniel Edwards has seen the series through its three seasons and found all of the talented cast so far, so expect him to also be looking for talent to fill any uncast roles in the film.

While a specific release date has yet to be announced, the film is anticipated to premiere on Netflix in 2026. In the meantime, viewers can revisit the first three seasons of ‘Heartstopper’, currently available for streaming on the platform.
