Lucasfilm has officially announced that Ryan Gosling will headline a new addition to the Star Wars universe, titled ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’.

Scheduled for theatrical release on May 28, 2027, the film is set five years after the events of ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and promises to introduce audiences to an entirely new era within the franchise .

Directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’, the project is described as a standalone narrative. It will feature a fresh cast of characters and explore uncharted territory in the Star Wars timeline, steering away from the traditional Skywalker saga .

At the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, Gosling expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure.”

Production for ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is slated to begin in the autumn of 2025. The film’s release will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original ‘Star Wars’ movie, which debuted in May 1977.

This announcement comes as part of Lucasfilm’s broader strategy to expand the Star Wars cinematic universe with new stories and characters, offering fans fresh adventures in the galaxy far, far away.

According to IMDB there is no Casting Director attached to the project as of yet. However, if we were to place bets at Lucky Break News, our money would be on Nina Gold. A Lucasfilm favourite in recent years, Gold has cast ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’, ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi’, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’.

Keep an eye out on Lucky Break News as the project progresses, this is going to be a big one!
