When the BBC and ZDF unveiled their new ‘flirty cold-war spy drama’ last week at Seriesmania, the show called ‘Honey’ was described as a Cold War thriller set in 1982, which follows the deep cover agent named Marta of MI6.
Now, Deadline.com can reveal that the show will be a spin-off of the acclaimed series ‘Killing Eve’, focusing on the early career of MI6 spymaster Carolyn Martens, previously portrayed by Fiona Shaw. The project is in its preliminary stages and has not yet received an official green light.
Carolyn Martens, known for her enigmatic and ruthless demeanor as the head of MI6’s Russian desk, has been a pivotal character throughout the original series. The proposed prequel aims to delve into her ascent within the British Secret Service, shedding light on her formative years as a spy.
This development aligns with previous hints about expanding the ‘Killing Eve’ universe. In March 2021, AMC Networks’ President of Original Programming, Dan McDermott, expressed interest in exploring potential extensions of the series’ compelling world.
As the spin-off is still in early development, further details, including casting and release timelines, remain undisclosed. Fans of ‘Killing Eve’ can anticipate more insights into Carolyn Martens’ intriguing backstory as the project progresses.
