The trailer for Netflix documentary ‘Behind The Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ was released on Friday, following the transfer of the Stranger Things stage play from London’s West End to Broadway.

‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’, a prequel stage play to the acclaimed Netflix series, is set to begin performances at Broadway’s Marquis Theatre on March 28, 2025, with its official opening scheduled for April 22.

The production, which premiered in London’s West End in December 2023, has garnered significant acclaim, including two Olivier Awards for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play and Best Set Design.

Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in 1959, the narrative delves into the early lives of familiar characters such as Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, and Bob Newby. The storyline centers around new student Henry Creel and explores the origins of the Stranger Things universe.

The play is directed by three-time Tony Award winner Stephen Daldry, with co-direction by Justin Martin. The original story was conceived by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Kate Trefry, with Trefry also serving as the playwright.

In anticipation of the Broadway debut, Netflix will release a documentary titled ‘Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ on April 15. Directed by Jon Halperin, the documentary offers an in-depth look at the making of the play, featuring exclusive footage of the cast and creative team as they bring the production to life. As one creative notes in the trailer, “There are huge expectations around us. It’s Stranger Things, and we’ve got to deliver something incredible.” Another adds, “It’s a little bit daunting. The pressure’s starting to turn up, but we’ve got to get it right.”

Tickets for ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ on Broadway are on sale now.
