‘Your’re a Wizard Harry’

Some more casting rumours for the Harry Potter fans out there, this time concerning concerning the beloved character Rubeus Hagrid, the half-giant gamekeeper of Hogwarts.

Rubeus Hagrid is one of the most beloved characters in the ‘Harry Potter’ series. A half-giant with a heart as big as his towering frame, Hagrid serves as the Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is one of Harry Potter’s first connections to the magical world, personally delivering his Hogwarts acceptance letter and introducing him to Diagon Alley.

Despite his intimidating size, Hagrid is gentle, kind, and fiercely loyal. He has a deep love for magical creatures, often championing misunderstood and dangerous beasts like Buckbeak the hippogriff and Aragog the acromantula. His childlike innocence and unwavering faith in others sometimes lead him into trouble, but his good nature and bravery make him an invaluable ally to Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Originally portrayed by Robbie Coltrane, Hagrid became one of the most cherished characters in the ‘Harry Potter’ series, thanks in large part to Coltrane’s warmth, and truly amazing performance.

Coltrane brought a perfect balance of heart and comedy to the role, embodying Hagrid’s larger-than-life personality while also showcasing his vulnerability. His portrayal resonated deeply with audiences,

Sadly, Robbie Coltrane passed away on October 14, 2022, at the age of 72. His death was met with an outpouring of tributes from fans, co-stars, and the wider film industry. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and many others spoke of his kindness, humour, and generosity on and off set.

But with production beginning soon, HBO have begun locking down actors for pivotal roles in the upcoming TV series, currently untitled, and according to sources HBO are looking to Nick Frost to play Hagrid.

Nick Frost is renowned for his collaborations with Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright, notably starring in the ‘Three Flavours Cornetto’ trilogy: ‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Hot Fuzz’, and ‘The World’s End’. He also co-wrote and starred in ‘Paul’ alongside Pegg. Beyond these, Frost has appeared in ‘Attack the Block’ and portrayed Bajie in the television series ‘Into the Badlands’.

Frost, who always comes across as warm and friendly, could potentially be received as a natural fit for Hagrid. His comedic timing, combined with his ability to bring depth and heart to his characters, makes him a strong contender for the role.
