So if you have been with us since the start you know every now and then we like to revisit a TV series that we may have missed upon their initial release. With all the great shows coming from Netflix, Amazon, Apple and Disney who has the time?? Well we make the time… eventually.

‘The Day of the Jackal‘ is a 2024 television series that reimagines Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel. Eddie Redmayne stars as the Jackal, an elusive assassin renowned for executing high-profile hits across Europe. The narrative follows his cat-and-mouse pursuit with Bianca Pullman, portrayed by Lashana Lynch, a determined British intelligence officer committed to capturing him. The series delves into their intense rivalry, offering a fresh perspective on the classic tale.

At LBN we loved this series. We had grown accustomed to seeing Eddie Redmayne in the role of the charming, reserved Newt Scamander from ‘Fantastic Beasts‘, where his portrayal exuded a quiet intensity and a subtle warmth. His character was always gentle, thoughtful, and somewhat introverted, creating an endearing, yet understated presence. So, when we saw him fully transform for ‘The Day of the Jackal’, it was a striking shift. Redmayne steps into a completely different character, shedding his usual demeanor for something far more intense and unpredictable, displaying his incredible range as an actor. Watching him embody this new role is a reminder of his versatility and how he can completely reinvent himself from one performance to the next.

And of course for those who watched the show, you literally see him transform within the show not just as an actor. Props to the make up department.

Lashana Lynch brings a commanding presence in portraying Bianca Pullman, a determined British intelligence officer. Her performance adds a strong, grounded energy to the series, standing in stark contrast to the mysterious and calculating Jackal.

We loved the acting, the directing, the filmography, all of it. And we weren’t the only ones. Critics have commended the series for its suspenseful pacing, intricate plotting, and its ability to update the classic story while maintaining its tension and intrigue.

For us LBN its a must watch.

‘The Day of the Jackal’ can be streamed on NOW TV and SKY.
