A fresh adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull” has commenced its run at London’s Barbican Theatre, featuring a distinguished ensemble cast. Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett portrays the role of Arkadina, reuniting with co-star Tom Burke, who takes on the character of Trigorin; the duo recently collaborated on Steven Soderbergh’s film “Black Bag.”
Joining them is Emma Corrin, known for “The Crown” and “Deadpool 3,” as Nina. The cast also includes Kodi Smit-McPhee (“Elvis,” “The Power of the Dog”) as Konstantin, Priyanga Burford (“An Enemy of the People”) as Polina, Zachary Hart (“An Enemy of the People”) as Medvedenko, Paul Higgins as Shamrayev, Tanya Reynolds (“A Mirror”) as Masha, and Jason Watkins (“The Crown”) as Sorin.
This production is a collaboration between Duncan Macmillan, who has adapted the Chekhov script, and director Thomas Ostermeier, aiming to infuse the classic play with contemporary relevance. The creative team comprises set designer Magda Willi, costume designer Marg Horwell, sound designer Tom Gibbons, and casting directors Jim Carnahan and Liz Fraser.
Currently in previews at The Barbican, performances are scheduled to run until April 5, with the official opening night slated for March 6.
The show is currently sold out, but for any returns or last minute tickets, visit The Barbican website here.
