As reported in the last quarter for 2024, it is confirmed we will be getting a new Richard Gadd project in 2026, with filming due to commence early 2025. We do not need to go into detail about the huge success that was his first project ‘Baby Reindeer’ (winner of 6 Emmys and nominated for 3 BAFTA’s and 3 Golden Globes) need we say more. ‘Half Man’ due to be filmed in Scotland, follows Ruben (Richard Gadd) as he turns up to his estranged brother’s wedding which will catapult us into a deep dive of their relationship throughout the previous decades. Niall, Rubens brother is set to be played by the enigmatic Jamie Bell.
It is currently under wraps which Casting Director will lead this 6 part series set in Scotland, but in the meantime we can make some educated guesses. Nina Gold (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Game of Thrones) , a titan of casting, worked on ‘Baby Reindeer’, and judging by its success, it would be hard to see Nina Gold turn down the next Richard Gadd project.
Julie Harkin from Harkin & Toth Casting would be a good bet given previous projects. Julie worked on both ‘Industry’ and ‘I May Destroy You’, two projects where BBC and HBO collaborated on in the past.
We should also look to location, as it’s based in Scotland, BBC/HBO may look towards local casting. Kahleen Crawford is arguably Scotland’s biggest CD, not only that, but she recently worked on BBC’s ‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’ which gives her an established connection with the BBC, not to mention great local knowledge.
Keep an eye on Lucky Break Casting for updates on ‘Half Man’.
