The weekly box office results are in for January 17th -23rd. After losing the crown last week, it was expected that ‘Mufasa’ would slowly slide down the charts after a successful box office campaign. But low and behold it roars back to the top spot. It adds another $18m to its tally beating out the 2nd spot by just under $1m. A tight race! ‘Den of Thieves 2: Pantera’ sees a sharp drop in ticket sales and barely hangs on at the 5th spot.
Coming in at number 2 is the new release, ‘One of Them Days’ starring Keke Palmer and SZA. The comedy follows two best friends Dreux and Alyssa as they discover their rent money was spent by Alyssa’s boyfriend. The pair then find themselves in a race against the clock to keep them from getting evicted. Although ‘One of Them Days’ just fell short of reaching number 1, the comedy has debuted to positive reviews and should be checked out at your earliest convenience.
Another new release this week is Universal’s ‘Wolf Man’ starring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner. Perhaps due to the average reviews, ‘Wolf Man’ was only able to reach the third spot on the box office charts. The horror had originally planned to reunite Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) and Ryan Gosling, however due to scheduling conflicts the pair had to drop out. With that said, we can’t help but wonder what a snarling Ryan Gosling would look like.
